Most of my posts are centered around health and nutrition. My true motivation in my journey to lose weight is to kick diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol to the curb. One of the upsides to this, is that as you lose weight, you need to move into smaller sizes of clothes. The feeling of fitting into properly fitting clothes, in my opinion, is highly underrated.
In my lifetime of being obese and getting progressively less healthy, I have become a master of wearing clothes that mask my true weight. Loose fitting hoodies, baggy jeans, untucked shirts, and an aversion to tight-fitting clothing are the hallmarks of hiding a fat body. My feeling was always that these fashion tricks didn't make you look thinner, but just took the attention away from man boobs, fat belly, and fat butt.
Last weekend I went to a karaoke night at our local bar, and decided to wear a size medium pearl snap shirt (tucked in) and some 33 waist jeans. These are clothes that I have had for a while, but had never worn before because they were too small. Right now, they fit me well, but go against my previous rules for clothing worn in public. They were tighter fitting than what I usually wear, and by tucking in my shirt, I was showing the true shape of my body.
It was a fantastic feeling! I had confidence that night that I usually don't have. It doesn't really have anything to do with my health journey, but this great feeling is wonderful motivation to continue on with losing weight and getting healthy.
Sometimes the negative self-talk with me focuses on what I can't have to eat and what I can't do socially for fun. Last Saturday night felt more about feeling good because I'm looking good. The positivity will help sustain me the next time I get into a negative loop where I'm considering giving up or saying that it can't be done.
I'm at about the halfway point for my weight loss that I will need to reverse my health problems. This last half of my weight loss will most likely be the most difficult, but at least I can look good doing it!
