Ingredient 3: Wheat Germ

One of the newest additions to my SuperBowl is wheat germ. Wheat germ is the part of the wheat seed that eventually grows into the wheat plant. In highly-processed white flour, the wheat germ and the bran(the outer covering of the wheat seed) is generally removed. Both of these are really good for you, and are part of the reason why white flour is not. I order my wheat germ through Amazon. I get the Bob's Red Mill brand. My cost comes out to about 8 cents per day. To me, it seems like a bargain considering the upsides.

For me, the main reasons for adding wheat germ to my SuperBowl are 1) to get improvement in insulin sensitivity and improved cholesterol numbers and 2) to get more spermidine in my diet.

Wheat germ is clinically shown to improve insulin sensitivity in diabetics and help to keep blood sugars low and stable. It is also proven to reduce LDL cholesterol and triglicerides. These are important ways that I intend to improve my health and reduce my dependence on prescription drugs.

Spermadine is something that I had not heard of before reading How Not to Age by Michael Greger. It is a chemical with some pretty amazing properties. It acts to aid in anti-aging and longevity in humans. It does this by helping to facilitate autophagy in your cells. Spermidine helps to remove old and/or dysfunctional cell parts, and helps to recycle them into renewed cell parts. Because of this, the cells become more efficient and help your body to look, feel and function like a younger person. I like the sound of that.

Like most of the healthy foods out there, it's better for you to eat the whole food, rather than taking a supplement. This is why I really like eating my morning SuperBowl. I get all of these healthy benefits while eating something that is filling, extremely healthy, and delicious. My SuperBowl is healthier than if I were to eat a bowl of oatmeal and then take a spermidine supplement and a flaxseed oil supplement.
