My journey to reverse my Type 2 Diabetes is still going well, but it is going a bit slower than I had hoped. My first 20 pounds came off pretty easy, and my eating habits have changed a lot for the better since my diagnosis this summer.
We took a trip to Las Vegas a couple weeks ago. I went there without a glucose monitor, and the plan was to eat and drink whatever I wanted for 4 days. It was a great time! I continued on my meds, and I didn't eat as poorly as I thought I would, but I did gain 8 pounds in 4 days.
When I got back, I went back to my normal eating plan. I was not motivated enough to get back to my exercise plan though. Six of those eight pounds did come off in the following week, but I have been stuck since then.
I read an article last week about the 30-30-30 plan that was first proposed by Tim Ferriss in his book The 4-Hour Body. The fat loss plan states that you eat 30 grams of protein within 30 minutes of getting up in the morning. You follow that up with 30 minutes of continuous, but not aerobic, exercise. I started this on Tuesday. I'm planning on trying it for the month of November and see if I see any results. Heres How I'm doing it:
1) I make a Huel Black shake and drink it when I get up in the morning. I'm drinking the Cinnamon Roll flavor. It's really good. 2 Scoops has 400 calories, 40 grams of protein, and only 4 grams of sugar.
2) After I get that down, I take my vitamins, and my daily medications.
3) Finally, I get on the treadmill, and I walk for 30 minutes. My goal on the treadmill is to get my heart rate into the 120s and keep it there for 30 minutes. I make sure to keep it below 135. Apparently at that point, you are overdoing it.
I have 27 more days this month to work the 30-30-30 plan. In December, I will check in with an update.
*Slightly related to all of this* - Although my weight hasn't really changed in the last 10 days or so, I do notice that my clothes are fitting looser. I'm wearing pants that would not have fit me a month ago. It's possible that I'm replacing some fat with muscle. If so, that would be great. That is the plan to reverse my diabetes: eliminate the fat embedded in my muscle tissue so my insulin sensitivity will improve.
